Chelsea slap £26m price tag on defensive star as club looks to raise funds

Chelsea set £26m price tag on Emerson Palmieri

According to Goal.com (h/t Metro), Chelsea have slapped a £26m valuation on defender Emerson Palmieri, who has been linked with Inter Milan.

The 26-year-old Emerson joined Chelsea in January 2018 from Italian outfit AS Roma. However, the defender has never been able to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge.

In his two-and-a-half year stint at Chelsea, Emerson has made 55 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and setting up five more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The seven-time capped Italian international featured just 21 times in the season gone by, with only two Premier League starts coming after the turn of the year. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With the left-back seemingly not part of manager Frank Lampard’s plans, Chelsea have been looking to offload him this summer and generate transfer funds.

And as per the latest report, the club will demand a transfer fee of £26m from his suitors this summer. However, it is also claimed that there would be some leeway in the valuation, with Inter Milan willing to offer only £22m.

Chelsea have been very active in the transfer market. The Blues have already splashed the cash to sign Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, while a big money move for Kai Havertz is on the verge of completion.

In addition, the club is also closing in on the capture of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City. So, it is important that we balance the books by selling players who are not part of the plans moving forward.

To that end, Emerson could be one of a number of fringe stars who are likely to be shown the doors this summer.
