“I loved Chelsea” – Star La Liga defensive lynchpin reveals Stamford Bridge dream

Jose Gimenez opens up on childhood love for Chelsea

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid ace Jose Gimenez has opened up on his love for Chelsea.

This will come as good news for the Blues. Chelsea have struggled to keep clean sheets throughout the season, much to the deterrence of good work done elsewhere.

One of the players on the club’s list of targets is Gimenez. The 25-year-old is a proven commodity at the top level. He has featured regularly for Diego Simeone’s side and has Champions League experience.

The Uruguayan has three more years to go on his Atletico contract. Although he is unlikely to come cheap, his positive comments will have given Chelsea hope.

“I always used to watch Chelsea as a kid, loved them.”

The Blues have accelerated their on-field success after Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003. The Russian oligarch has since overseen a sustained period of success that runs to this day.

Given the number of trophies we have won and the quality of players who represented us, it is no surprise that a generation of footballers has grown up admiring us.

Chelsea have also embarked upon a new journey with the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager last summer. A club legend as a player, he has shown great promise in his first season at the Bridge as a manager.

Gimenez for one is a fan and would have liked to have played alongside Lampard.

Although that dream is now past it, at least at a competitive level. Gimenez can still aim to play under the former English international’s guidance.

Defensive reinforcements are a priority. It remains to be seen if Gimenez will be a part of the incomings.
