Mason Mount expects Chelsea to progress next season under Frank Lampard

Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount expects the club to push on from the promise they have shown this season.

The youngster has enjoyed an excellent breakout season at Stamford Bridge. Despite making the top four, the Blues failed to clear the final hurdle in the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Now with Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner on board, Chelsea are ready to rekindle their efforts to get back to the top of English football. Mount is under no pressure and expects Frank Lampard to drive the team on to greater glories next season.

“There are things we have to work on to get better but we are on the right path, we are driven to win trophies, to really step up our game.”

Chelsea have shown this season that they can compete alongside the best. The wins against Liverpool and Manchester City are a testament to that.

The next step now is to showcase a similar performance on a consistent basis. As someone who has been there and done that, Lampard’s experience will prove invaluable to his young squad.

“He knows when to put his arm around you and he knows when to tell you that you need to improve on something or look at this in your game and see where you can do better.”

A star for Chelsea and also an England international, Mount has come a long way since the Chelsea academy.

He revealed that his father did have doubts about him making the grade at Chelsea. Mount has gone on to do just that and is far from done.

Not all players make the grade at a club such as Chelsea where the standards are high. One of them who failed to do so was Mount’s friend Declan Rice.
