Chelsea faces stiff competition for Ben White

According to The Sun, Chelsea face competition from a number of clubs for Brighton and Hove Albion star Ben White.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine spell on loan at Leeds for the 2019-20 campaign. He played a key role in Marcelo Bielsa’s side gaining promotion to the Premier League after a gap of 16 years.

His performances have garnered the attention of a number of sides across the country. According to the report, every top-six side has approached Brighton regarding their star prospect.

Leeds are keen to retain the youngster and have made a £35million bid for him. The offer is expected to be rejected, with Brighton valuing White at £50m.

More so, the Seagulls are not keen to sell the youngster. They hope to see him partner skipper Lewis Dunk at the heart of the Chelsea defence. The latter too has been subject to intense speculation linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea defence has been a cause for much worry all season. In fact, we conceded 54 goals in the league, the most among all of the top ten sides in the Premier League.

The FA Cup final against Arsenal also showcased the need to tighten at the back in order to remain competitive. The likes of Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andras Christensen and even Fikayo Tomori have all been used so far with varying success.

None of the quarter has impressed enough to show they have what it takes to be the defensive lynchpin we need.

The 22-year-old has made 118 first-team appearances at the senior level and was also voted as the best young player in the EFL by Sky Sports readers.

Despite his age, White has shown he has what it takes to succeed. Playing in the Championship is no mean feat given the competitiveness. Having flourished at Elland Road, he could be set to take the step up to the Premier League.

An extremely fit player, he had also not missed a single minute of Championship action this past season.
