Premier League newcomers keeping tabs on out-of-favour Chelsea star

Michy Batshuayi could be on hsi way to Leeds United

According to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay (h/t Express), Leeds United are keen on out-of-favour Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

The 26-year-old has been at Chelsea for the past four years. He has, however, failed to make an impact and is now on the fringes of the first-team.

Batshuayi, in fact, started the season as the second-choice striker behind Tammy Abraham. However, he failed to make the most of his opportunities and ended the current campaign behind both Olivier Giroud and Abraham.

With German ace Timo Werner also joining the Blue revolution, Batshuayi will be hard-pressed to get game time.

To put things into perspective, the Belgian has not featured for Chelsea since the restart. His last appearance for the club was against Bournemouth in February.

He now has the opportunity to put an end to his Stamford Bridge nightmare by linking up with former boss Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine is well aware of Batshuayi having coached him at Olympic Marseille earlier. (h/t Express)

Batshuayi has no future at the club

“Bielsa knew him as a youngster at Marseille when he was the manager there so he knows a lot about his game.”

According to the report, the player’s transfer fee and wages could prove to be an obstacle in his efforts to move to Elland Road.

Having signed him for £33m, Chelsea are keen to recoup most of their investment for the Belgian. With his contract ending next summer, the Blues will be keen to sell him this summer and prevent him from moving on a free in a year’s time.

Batshuayi has scored six goals and assisted two more in 23 appearances this season. While his numbers are far from terrible, his performances leave much to be desired.

The writing was on the wall for Batshuayi even before the restart. The Belgian was largely sidelined and was among the two players who did not have a shirt number.
