Mason Mount keen to reunite with Declan Rice at Chelsea
According to the Express, Chelsea star Mason Mount is keen to reunite with close friend Declan Rice at Stamford Bridge.
The duo was together at the Chelsea academy in their younger days. Rice joined the club at the age of seven and stayed till 2014 when he was released.
He has since gone on to make a name for himself at West Ham United. An accomplished defensive midfielder, Rice is also adept at playing as a centre-back.
This versatility has seen him attract the attention of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. The Blues tactician is in search of reinforcements to plug his leaky defence ahead of next season.
A leader at the back, Rice has been identified as a key target to help hold us together at the back. According to the report, Chelsea will make a move for Rice once they bring the Kai Havertz saga to an end.
It was reported earlier that Chelsea have in fact made a bid for Rice. West Ham put an end to the speculation by denying the claim outright.
This did not stop Mount from liking the post on Instagram. If anything, it is a clear indication that the youngster is keen to see his former teammate and close friend return to where it all began.
The 21-year-old Hammers star would be available for around £50million. A figure thought to be well within Lampard’s budget.
West Ham are however keen to hold onto their star asset. Rice has a long-term contract at West Ham which runs until 2024.
The Hammers also have the option of extending it by another year. This puts them in a strong position when it comes to negotiations.
His performances saw him win West Ham Players’ Player of the Year award while also being declared as Young Hammer of the Year for the third consecutive season in 2018-19. (h/t Mirror)
