Chelsea the fifth-best paid team in the Premier League
According to Safebettingsites (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have the fifth biggest wage bill in the English Premier League.
We are one spot behind arch-rivals Arsenal who have the fourth-highest payroll in the league. In fact, if wages are taken as a barometer to predict standings, it is safe to say that the Blues have overachieved this season.
The top three positions are unsurprisingly led by the clubs that finished ahead of us this season. Manchester City occupy the top spot followed by Manchester United and Premier League champions Liverpool.
Chelsea have a weekly spend of $6.24million. The amount is lesser than what it was before the sale of Eden Hazard and our transfer ban.
With the ban now a thing of the past, Chelsea moved quickly to secure the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner ahead of the summer transfer window.
Adding the duo’s wages will surely boost out payroll in the coming season. This will be offset in part by the loss of veteran wingers Pedro and Willian.
Given that we are linked with big names such as Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, and Declan Rice, it is fair to assume that the wage bill will see a net rise rather than drop.
One of the other high-profile names potentially on the chopping block is goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Getting the Spaniard’s wages off the budget will free up space to accommodate future signings.
Frank Lampard has lost patience with his number one and is keen to replace him this summer. The likes of Ajax Amsterdam star Andre Onana and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson touted as potential replacements. (h/t Football.london)

While wages and amount spent do not guarantee success, it does make your job easier to bring in the best players.
It is only natural that the best players command the best wages. With a number of them on Chelsea’s radar this summer, it will come as no surprise if we beat Arsenal in next season’s rankings.
