Chelsea face a threat in the race for £90m star as Man United enter the fray

Manchester United to target Kai Havertz if Jadon Sancho chase falters

According to MEN (h/t Mirror), Manchester United could enter the chase for Chelsea target Kai Havertz.

The Red Devils will only do so if their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho falters. Although Havertz appears to be closing in a move to the Bridge, United and Liverpool remain admirers.

United had identified Sancho to be their priority for the summer. The club has, however, made little headway in securing the £100million star.

Dortmund had given United a deadline of August 10 to complete the deal. The Red Devils failed to do so, prompting the Germans to declare that the player will stay put at the club. Sancho was a part of the Dortmund squad that flew to Switzerland to participate in the pre-season training.

Valued at £90m, Havertz is set to command a figure close to that of Sancho. Leverkusen too appear to be more accomodating in garnering interest in their star.

Chelsea are in the driving seat, with the player also keen on a move to the Bridge. With Leverkusen crashing out of the Europa League, the onus is now on the Blues to get the deal done.

It is difficult to see United being able to pay the mammoth fee for both players. This puts the Red Devils into a predicament that could help Chelsea.

United can attempt to persuade a steadfast Dortmund side for Sancho or enter the fray for Havertz. The more time they take to make a decision, the more chances Chelsea have to complete a deal for the latter.
