Chelsea contacted Real Madrid over Brazilian sensation Vinicius Junior
According to the Spanish publication AS, (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea had approached Real Madrid last year in an effort to sign Vinicius Junior.
A number of clubs had shown interest prior to the Blues’ inquiry. These include Arsenal and PSG.
Still only 20, Vinicius has notched up an impressive 69 appearances for the Spanish giants. He has scored 8 goals and 16 assists during that time.
Madrid signed Vinicius from Brazilian side Flamengo for £39.6million in 2018. It is the highest fee ever paid for a player under the age of 18.
The youngster has shown at times that he has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world. He would have made an excellent addition to the motley of talented youth already at Stamford Bridge.
The report goes on to say that we are the most recent to enquire about the player’s availability. This happened last November before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Blues have since turned their attention elsewhere. Chelsea moved quickly to sign both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner even before the transfer window was open.
Vinicius is happy at Real and believes he will have more opportunities next season, having made 38 appearances this season.
The Brazilian has a mammoth £630m release clause in his contract. A club can, however, sign him for cheap if they reach an agreement with Real.
Possessing pace, control, dribbling skills and acceleration, Vinicius is an excellent prospect who can scale great heights. He is also versatile enough to play anywhere along the front line.

Adding Vinicius to our mix would have been an exciting prospect to occur. However, the Blues have not approached Real regarding the 20-year-old this year.
Our interest in the player, for now, seems nonexistent. What the future holds remains to be seen.
