Chelsea keen to trump Liverpool to defender Ben White
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are ready to sacrifice Antonio Rudiger to hijack a move for Liverpool target Ben White.
The 22-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion defender has enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Leeds United. He has been a key member in Marcelo Bielsa’s side that won the Championship and returned to the Premier League after 16 years.
His performances have ensured that the team did not miss Swedish international Pontus Jansson, who left the club last summer.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to revamp his backline after a difficult season defensively. According to the report, German international, Rudiger could be one of the high-profile casualties.
The 27-year-old has failed to convince Lampard that he is the solution to the team’s defensive issues. The Blues conceded a thumping 54 league goals in 2019-20, more than any other team in the top ten. Interestingly, Rudiger started from the bench in yesterday’s Champions League clash in Germany.
The Blues will face off against Premier League champions Liverpool for the player’s signature. The Reds recently sold Dejan Lovren and are set to make a move worth £20m for the player.
Leeds United are also keen to bring back the youngster who has left an indelible impression at Elland Road. Brighton value the player at £40m with his contract set to run until 2022.
A no-nonsense defender who has also shown an ability to be a leader, he is exactly what the Chelsea back-line needs.
The 22-year-old has made 118 first-team appearances at senior club level. White was also voted as the best young player in the EFL by Sky Sports readers.

Trumping Liverpool to White will be the second time that will have trumped the reds to a signing.
Timo Werner looked set to move to Anfield, only for Chelsea to change his mind. Hopefully, history will repeat itself and the 22-year-old White will find his way to Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.
