Chelsea and Manchester United to battle for Kasper Schmeichel
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), transfer expert Ian McGarry has claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is also a target for Manchester United.
The 33-year-old Schmeichel has been with Leicester City since 2011, having joined from Leeds United. He has been a constant presence between the sticks for the Foxes ever since and has grown into one of the most reliable custodians in the Premier League.
Schmeichel finished the 2019/20 term with 13 clean sheets from 38 Premier League outings, helping Leicester to a fifth-place finish. And McGarry has now claimed that Chelsea are looking at the Danish international as a possible option to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga. (h/t Express)
It is no secret that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is not convinced by current first-choice goalkeeper Kepa. The Spaniard has endured a torrid campaign, making several mistakes that have hurt the team. And it seems like the club are eyeing Schmeichel as a potential replacement. (h/t Express)
“Chelsea have also expressed an interest in Kasper Schmeichel. He would be a ready-made replacement for Kepa, at the moment there doesn’t seem to be many alternatives – though they’ve been linked with Nick Pope as well.”
McGarry does add that Chelsea will have to offload Kepa before signing a new goalkeeper, although there are no real suitors for the Spaniard at the moment. (h/t Express)

Schmeichel, as per the report, is also being courted by our rivals Manchester United. And while he is a reliable performer, at 33, he does not have a lot of years left in his career at the highest level.
The club should, thus, be looking at someone younger, like Burnley’s Pope, who is also mentioned as a target by McGarry.
