Transfer Expert backs Merseyside club to make move for struggling Chelsea star

Everton interested in Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma

According to transfer expert, Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has caught the attention of Everton.

The Merseysiders have identified the Frenchman as an alternative to Lille star Gabriel Magalhaes. With Manchester United and Arsenal set to rival Everton for the Brazilian’s signature, McGarry believes the Toffees should make a move for the Chelsea star.

“If Gabriel of course prefers to move to Old Trafford rather than Goodison Park then Zouma may well be a reasonable replacement in the pecking order at Everton.”

Zouma will be familiar with Everton, having spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Goodison Park. He enjoyed a successful spell on Merseyside where he made 36 appearances.

The Frenchman has been a part of an oft-rotated defence under Frank Lampard. He has failed to stand out in 42 appearances this season and has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Now managed by former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, Everton finished 12th in the Premier League this season. They also conceded 56 goals, which is ironically just two worse off than us.

Lampard is keen to strengthen his back four. He has identified English pair Declan Rice and Ben Chilwell as two top targets. (h/t Express)

McGarry confirmed that Zouma is among those who could make way for new players this season.

“It’s our information that Lampard is willing to sell up to four of possibly five of his current defensive players including Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Emerson and Marcos Alonso.”

It could turn into a tussle between two former Chelsea managers for the player, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested.

Jose Mourinho was the one who signed Zouma for Chelsea in 2014. He now seeks to reunite with the Frenchman at Tottenham as he aims to revamp a sluggish Spurs backline. (h/t Express)

Zouma the current season as a first-choice centre-back. However, a dip in form has seen him fall behind Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

The 25-year-old’s performances have been nothing to write home about. Zouma is not a key player for Chelsea and can be considered expendable if someone better is found.
