Chelsea sell talented 19-year-old youngster amidst summer shake-up

Chelsea youngster Nicolas Tie joins Portuguese side Vitoria

According to Football.london, Portuguese club Vitoria have officially announced that Chelsea youngster Nicolas Tie has joined the club. The youngster has signed a five-year deal that sees the Portuguese side own 55% of Tie’s economic rights.

The 19-year-old joined the Chelsea academy in July 2017 from French minnows Stade Poitevin FC. He eventually signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2018.

Tie was added to Chelsea’s Champions League B list this January. He has already represented Ivory Coast at the Under-23 level and has also received a full international call-up. He did not, however, win a senior cap as he had to pull out because of injury.

Tie failed to break into Chelsea’s first-team and has had to endure a number of injuries of late.

It looks to be a season of change between the sticks at the Bridge. Kepa Arrizalaga could also join Tie in leaving the club.

Speculation is rife regarding the Spaniard’s future. Frank Lampard has benched him for a number of key games in what appears to be a lack of faith in his number one.

It is fair to say the 25-year-old’s performances have given the Chelsea boss many options. It remains to be seen if he will be brought back into the line-up for the FA Cup final.

The Blues have a busy summer on their hands, with a number of key players set to come in. With competition from academy stars also on the rise, it is inevitable that those deemed surpluses will be shipped out.

Tie may be a good player but injuries have prevented him from taking the next step in his progress. It may prove to be a good deal for everyone involved. Chelsea are also set to lose youngster Samuel Iling-Junior to Juventus.
