Report: Lampard ready to offload two midfielders if top target arrives

Chelsea could sell Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek if Kai Havertz arrives

According to a report from the Express, Chelsea will listen to offers for Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek should the club be able to secure the signing of primary transfer target Kai Havertz in the summer transfer window.

It is an open secret that the club are earnestly chasing the signing of the 21-year-old German international after an explosive 2019/20 campaign. (h/t Express)

Kai Havertz remains the top priority for Chelsea

Chelsea have already splashed the cash on the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, mostly utilising on the proceeds from the sales of Eden Hazard. So, the club have the finances to fund another big money move for Havertz this summer. (h/t Express)

However, in order to balance the squad, Lampard is open to offloading a couple of midfielders. And the two players that might be sold, according to the report, are Barkley and Loftus-Cheek.

Ross Barkley has struggled for consistency at Chelsea

Barkley joined the club in January 2018 from Everton. While the England international has shown glimpses of his quality, he has largely been inconsistent during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old did score against Leicester City in the FA Cup last month. He had been in decent touch prior to the season getting suspended as well. However, as per the report, he is far too inconsistent for Lampard’s liking, which could see him shown the doors, amid interest from West Ham.

As far as Loftus-Cheek is concerned, Chelsea understand that he has the potential to be an excellent asset. However, recent injuries have hampered his development and as a result, the club wouldn’t be averse to moving him on as Lampard looks to build a title-winning team. (h/t Express)

Selling Barkley would be an understandable move from the club should we able to sign Havertz. Loftus-Cheek, though, has been very unlucky with injuries and needs to be given another shot.
