Marina Granovskaia opens talks with Jan Oblak’s agent

According to transfer expert Nicolo Schira, Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia has opened talks with the agent of Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak.

The Slovakian is at the head of Chelsea’s list of potential replacements for under-fire number one Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard too appears to have accepted his fate, with the likes of Sevilla and Valencia interested.

The world’s most expensive keeper in history, Kepa has done little to do justice to that title. His time at Stamford Bridge has been a mixture of impressive saves and inexcusable blunders.

The writing seems to be on the wall as Frank Lampard dropped him once again for the key clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers. This was the second time the manager chose to play Willy Caballero in three games. The other being the FA Cup semifinal against Manchester United.

Usually, one expects their best players to play in the important games. Lampard’s reluctance to use Kepa speaks volumes.

Although Chelsea have bolstered their attack by signing Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, the defence continues to disappoint. The Blues have conceded 54 times this year – the most in the top ten.

A rebuild of the backline is necessary, with the goalkeeper a major priority. As the last line of defence, he must not only be dependable but also consistent.

Chelsea and Atletico already have a close relationship, with the two clubs involved in a number of transfers. The Spanish club are in financial trouble, which could aid the talks for the Blues.

Oblak is among the finest players in his position and has consistently emerged as a match-winner for Diego Simeone’s side. Considered as a world-class goalkeeper, he will be a significant upgrade on Kepa.

Oblak has conceded just 174 goals in 256 matches for Atletico and has kept an impressive 139 clean sheets. The fact that he averages 0.68 goals conceded per match is truly staggering.

He has every chance of being a game-changer for us. The club should consider making him a top priority this summer.
