Chelsea looking to revive the career of wantaway Man City star

Chelsea interested in Manchester City defender John Stones

According to Football Insider (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on bringing in Manchester City centre-back John Stones to Stamford Bridge.

Currently out of favour at the Etihad, Stones has made just 16 appearances in what has been an injury-hit season.

The 26-year-old has seen his stock fall this season. A regular for City in the last two campaigns, he played a key role in their run-up to successive Premier League titles. Loss of form and injuries has since seen him fall down the pecking order.

He could yet make a comeback in Blue, but in the dark blue of Chelsea. The Blues are aware of the defender’s predicament and are keen to bring him to the Bridge.

Chelsea have endured a defensive nightmare that has stretched across the season. Having brought in attacking reinforcements, they have now turned their attention to the defence.

Stones fits the bill of an experienced defender that the Blues are on the lookout for. With 162 appearances in the Premier League, the Englishman is certainly a proven commodity.

Capable of playing the ball out from the back, Stones is technically adept and should fit Lampard’s style. He certainly paints a better picture than either Antonio Rudiger or Kurt Zouma who at times look like Bambi on ice.

Stones had recently come out and spoken of his woes at a difficult season. He is now fit and is raring to go with City looking to win their first Europen crown.

Stones certainly has failed to become the player he promised to be when he moved to City.

However, he remains a potent player adept at his usage of the ball. At 26, he is both experienced and successful, and knows what it is like to win trophies. His best years are ahead of him and Chelsea will do well to take a punt on the former Barnsley youth product.
