Jan Oblak is keen on a new challenge with Chelsea interested
According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is open to the idea of moving to the Premier League amidst interest from Chelsea.
The 27-year-old is unsettled at Atletico. He is looking for a bigger, more ambitious challenge and a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
The Slovenian is among the finest players in his position and has consistently emerged as a match-winner for Diego Simeone’s side. Considered as a world-class goalkeeper, he will be a significant upgrade on a struggling Kepa Arrizabalaga.
According to the report, Oblak is unhappy at some of the decisions and directions taken by Atletico’s sporting director Andrea Berta.
Competition for the player will be strong, with arch-rivals Manchester United also keen. The Red Devils too have had an issue in goal, with David de Gea making a number of errors.
Chelsea were earlier reported to have been ready to offer Kepa in part exchange for Oblak. However, the report goes on to add that Atletico will only accept a cash-only deal. They are unwilling to compromise on the player’s £109m release clause.
If it comes to pass, it will be the second time in three years that the Blues will be paying a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.
After signing Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Frank Lampard is keen to add to his defence, with a new keeper a major priority. Kepa will not have done his case any favours, having let in five at Anfield.

Oblak is regarded by many as the best in the business and is a proven talent at the top level. He has conceded just 174 goals in 256 matches for Atletico and has kept an impressive 139 clean sheets. The fact that he averages 0.68 goals conceded per match is truly staggering.
