“As simple as that”: Rival PL manager adamant Chelsea target will not be sold

Brendan Rodgers adamant that Leicester City will not sell Ben Chilwell

According to Leicester Mercury, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers remains adamant that star defender Ben Chilwell will stay at the club amidst interest from Chelsea.

The Blues have identified the left-back spot as one that needs strengthening with Chilwell the leading candidate.

The club are also keen to move on both Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso to help fund a move for the English international. However, that may not come to pass if Rodgers has his way. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

“There’s no intention to sell Ben Chilwell, and there’s absolutely no need for us to sell Ben Chilwell. So if you need to write a message, the message is he’s not for sale. It’s as simple as that.”

Terming Chilwell a key player, Rodgers went on to add that he hopes to keep the core of his squad together. It remains to be seen how much of it comes to pass if they fall out of the top four. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

“I’m not worried at all. We’ve got a fantastic squad, and a squad that we want to keep together.”

The former Chelsea coach did however fail to decisively answer when asked if Chilwell has already played his last game for the club. It could just be a case of confusion as the defender has been ruled out injured for the rest of the campaign.

He joined James Maddison on the sidelines. With these key players out, it can also help our top-four push as the Foxes have to still play Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Chilwell had commented earlier this season that he is keen to bring back Champions League football to the King Power Stadium. It remains to be seen if his teammates can achieve it in his absence.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are well-placed to do so. If things go well, he might as well get his dream of playing in the competition in Blue. The only difference being, he will be in Chelsea’s iconic colours.

Chelsea could once again benefit from such a result.
