Frank Lampard admits being put under pressure by Manchester United
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that his team have been put under pressure by top-four rivals Manchester United.
The Red Devils are just four points behind us and have a game in hand. A win will see them claw to within touching reach.
It might have already come to pass had the Red Devils taken advantage of our slip-up last weekend. The loss against Sheffield United took control of our top four hopes out of our hands. Thankfully, both United and Leicester City could not take advantage of our slip-up.
With our destiny back in our own hands, an Olivier Giroud header ensured we have some breathing space.
Rather than a vintage performance, it was a hard-fought win. But then three points was what we needed on the day and the team delivered. The sentiment was echoed by Lampard, who earmarked the importance the results have at this point of the season.
“At this stage of the season results are critical,”
The Blues boss knows his team is capable of playing better. He has, however, called for patience amidst the belief that getting maximum points now remains the priority.
“I want more but that can wait and I think where we are now as a team and with our position in the table, three points is everything tonight.”
It was imperative that we picked up maximum points against the Canaries. With champions Liverpool and a formidable Wolverhampton Wanderers side yet to come, our run-up is anything but enviable.
