Ajax Amsterdam Andre Onana keen on Chelsea transfer

According to the Athletic, Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Andre Onana is keen on moving to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Current Chelsea number one Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to convince in goal and has even been dropped in favour of Willy Caballero earlier this season.

The report goes on to claim that Chelsea has been in regular contact with Onana’s representatives in recent months ahead of a potential move for the Cameroon international this summer.

It further adds that the 24-year-old is also keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Cameroonian is one of Europe’s most prominent players. He has made a name for himself by helping Ajax win the Eredivisie and make it to the Champions League semifinals last season.

He will cost Chelsea in the region of £26.9m. The Dutch giants look set to stick to their valuation. The same was confirmed by Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar, who has revealed that Onana will not be allowed to leave for a reduced fee this summer.

A former Barcelona youth player, Onana has made 178 appearances for Ajax since transferring from the Nou Camp in 2015. He has kept 74 clean sheets.

His performances last season saw him get nominated for the best goalkeeper award at the Balon d’Or. Onana, however, ended up losing to Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.

Onana has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona. His contract at the Dutch giants runs till 2022.

Kepa has had plenty of opportunities to prove his detractors wrong, despite his ability to pull off something brilliant, he lacks consistency.

It is difficult for us to compete against the best teams without a reliable last line of defence. Two years on from his much-publicized move to Stamford Bridge, it might finally be time to say goodbye.
