Brentford preparing for the departure of Said Benrahma
According to the News (h/t Birmingham Mail), Brentford are readying themselves for the departure of star winger Said Benrahma.
The Bees believe their best chance of retaining the Algerian lies in them being promoted to the English Premier League.
Currently third in the English second division, Brentford are three points away from an automatic qualification spot. With just three more games to go, it remains to be seen if they can close the gap.
They are also preparing for the eventuality of Benrahma’s departure and have already identified a replacement. According to the report, Portsmouth’s Ronan Curtis is that player.
The Algerian is an excellent player who could become a shrewd purchase for Chelsea. The player had earlier drawn interest from fellow Premier League sides Aston Villa.
However, given that the Villans’ Premier League future is looking bleaker by the day, we will have to believe that we have a better chance of landing him.
According to the report, he will cost £25million. This represents a significant profit, as Brentford signed him for £2.7m just two years ago.
The 24-year-old is capable of playing on either flank. He has made 40 appearances this season and has scored 17 goals and 9 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Benrahma has been in excellent form since the season restarted last month. He has now scored six times in his last three matches as the Bees mount a serious assault on second spot.
With the likes of Pedro and possibly even Willian leaving, reinforcements on the wing are a priority for us this summer. Already familiar with the English game and having hit a purple patch, Benrahma looks ready to take a step up in level.

Chelsea scouts were at the Wigan game where Benrahma scored an incredible hat-trick. It is fair to say they would have left suitably impressed with what they saw.
The Blues look set to have a busy summer window. The addition of Benrahma could prove to be one of our shrewdest additions.
