Frank Lampard concedes Chelsea were outplayed against the Blades
It was the night that Chelsea was supposed to tighten their grip on the third spot. Instead, the Blues were given a footballing lesson by an inspired Sheffield United side.
Not only were we outfought and outmuscled but also outthought by our opponents on the night.
According to Sky Sports, Lampard has vowed to remember the lessons he learned at Bramall Lane.
“They were better than us, they were stronger than us physically and with the ball, so you lose the game.”
He admitted that his side wasn’t able to do as they pleased. Although we had the majority of the ball, our inability to create anything of significance was on display.
Sheffield are a well-drilled unit who have proven themselves to be a formidable opponent. Chelsea needed to be at their best but weren’t. They were made to pay for that.
“They are a good team and if you come here and perform below par this is what will happen.”
The Blues boss also called upon his players to not wallow in self-pity and get back on their feet. With three more games to go, we cannot afford to drop any more points.
“I learned a lot and I won’t forget that.”
With relegated Norwich City up next, it is time to put our Sheffield demons to bed.
Lampard has enjoyed a fruitful first season at the Bridge. There are undoubtedly many positives to take from it. However, given the repercussions of the defeat, the night at Bramall Lane could become a pivotal moment in his reign.
