Lampard admits that Chelsea’s top-four hopes are in their own hands

A top-four finish will constitute a successful season for Lampard

As reported by ESPN, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes his side have their top-four fate in their own hands.

The Blues currently occupy third spot. They lie one point above Leicester City and two above Manchester United. Given how close the teams are, a single slip-up could prove costly.

This is a fact not lost on the Blues boss as he urges his players to not get carried away by the positive results. (h/t ESPN)

“We can’t jump the gun though because we have seen in the last few weeks how things can change.”

Chelsea however can determine their own destiny. If the Blues win their four remaining games, they do not have to worry about how their rivals do.

Lampard’s side has shown a mean streak to finish off games since the restart. With four wins out of five games so far, they have strengthened their grip on a top-four finish.

But with matches against Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and champions Liverpool yet to come, the path ahead is anything but rosy.

“It’s easy to bring up momentum but I don’t believe in it. You’re only as good as your next game.”

He is satisfied by how his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge has gone. Given the constraints he has had to deal with, a top-four finish should represent a sound result. (h/t ESPN)

“Our destiny is now in our hands. I’m pretty happy with where we are.”
