Chelsea need to qualify for the Champions League to secure Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to the Italiian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Chelsea have made a move to sign Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The 25-year-old is one of Serie A’s leading midfielders and is one of Lazio’s key players as they attempted to mount a title challenge this season. Unfortunately, they have since fallen away, with Juventus now seven points clear.
The Serbian has made 35 appearances this season and has scored 6 goals and 7 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A complete midfielder, he will add much to our squad. Competition for the Serbian is fierce, with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United all keen. (h/t Express)
According to the report, the next few weeks will prove to be decisive concerning any formal approach. Chelsea is currently assessing the position of Milinkovic-Savic and his entourage as the Serie A season nears its end.
Whether we can offer him Champions League football next season could prove to be a deciding factor in negotiations. Lazio are set to qualify for the premier competition, and moving to a club that’s not a part of the UCL competition can be a step down for the player
Manchester United could prove to be our biggest adversaries on that count. The Blues are involved in a heated tussle with United for the coveted fourth spot.
Though we hold a lead over the Red Devils, they are in good form and could push us all the way.
With the duo also set to go up against each other in the FA Cup semifinals, the chase for Milinkovic-Savic adds another dimension to a rekindled rivalry.

The Blues have moved quickly to complete two major signings leading to the summer transfer window. Both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have joined the Lampard revolution at Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen if Milinkovic-Savic will do the same. If he does, the Blues will be getting themselves a true powerhouse of a midfielder.
Savic has won 15 caps for his country. He also won the Serie A midfielder of the year award in the 2018-19 season.
