According to RMC journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea are in talks with Brentford for star winger Said Benrahma.
The Blues are leading the race for the Algerian, who is also drawing interest from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Leicester City.
The 24-year-old is capable of playing on either flank. He has made 34 appearances this season and has scored 10 goals and 8 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The former Nice winger’s deal at Brentford runs until 2022. He has also earned three senior caps for the Algerian national team.
The player has admitted that he is flattered by interest from the Premier League. However, he is keen to give it his all for Brentford as long as he plays for them.
“I am now focused on my club in Brentford after it makes me happy that upscale Premier League clubs are behind me.”
If anything, he deserves credit for the professionalism he has shown. Valued at around £31million, he will represent a significant outlay.
The Blues are in need of wingers in the upcoming window. The likes of Pedro and Willian are set to leave the club. This leaves two spots on the flanks open that we will have to fill.
Benrahma has proved his ability to be a threat out wide and will be a solid addition.
Chelsea have already signed Hakim Ziyech and have Timo Werner in the bag.
The Blues will have a markedly different but dangerous attack to use next season. It remains to be seen how we cope with our new-found strengths.
