Blockbuster imminent signing makes bold UCL decision to push Chelsea transfer

Timo Werner keen to drop out of Leipzig’s UCL squad to speed up Chelsea move

According to German publication Bild (h/t Metro), Timo Werner has asked to be dropped from RB Leipzig’s UEFA Champions League squad.

The 24-year-old is closing in on a move to Chelsea after the club decided to pay his release clause. The deal has already been agreed in principle with the player accepting to the personal terms.

With football back on the agenda, Europe’s premier competition looks set to be played as a mini tournament in August. This will leave Werner with just a few weeks’ time to prepare before he begins next season with Chelsea.

The Germans advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Tottenham Hotspur over both legs. It appears they now will have to continue their campaign sans their star striker.

Technically, the Blues are still in the competition. However, it is difficult to see us overturn a 3-0 deficit away at the Allianz Arena.

Werner is keen to start at Chelsea and is fine with dropping out of the competition to accelerate his transfer.

This will see him link up with the squad earlier than expected, hence giving us time to ease him into our squad. It also takes away the possibility of him sustaining an injury and arriving at Stamford Bridge injured.

His eagerness to join us is a welcome sign. Werner is raring to go and can make a massive difference for us next season.

Had we been on the receiving end of such a decision, we are pretty sure our fans would not take it kindly.
