Bundesliga boss waxes lyrical about star attacker linked with Chelsea

Bayer Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz opens up on Kai Havertz future

According to Football.london, Bayer Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz expects Kai Havertz to remain at the club if no other developments take place.

The Dutchman left the 21-year-old out of his starting line-up as Leverkusen finished their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 win over Mainz.

Despite the three points, they were pipped by Borussia Monchengladbach to the all-important fourth spot. Speaking after the game, he refused to believe that the player has made his last appearance for the club.

“I certainly don’t have the impression that this will be his last game for the club. He is still under contract with us and I have to assume that he will be with us next season too.”

Interestingly he went on to add that he expects Havertz to stay provided no developments take place between now and end of the season.

“That’s all dependent on nothing happening before then.”

This should come as promising news for Chelsea who is actively pursuing the player’s signature. Blues boss Frank Lampard had admitted last week that the club is yet to make an offer.

The most important takeaway from that could be him denying any interest.

The 21-year-old, valued at £90m, has scored 16 goals and 9 assists in 42 games so far this season. He has been in excellent form since the restart and has grabbed six goals and one assist in eight games. (h/t Transfermarkt)

It was reported earlier that we could sign the German ace for £70m if Leverkusen fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. With that becoming a reality, whether there is any truth in the matter or not remains to be seen.
