Report: Chelsea set to axe 6 players as a part of summer clearout

Chelsea set to lose six players in summer clearout

According to Football.london’s Oliver Harbord, as many as six Chelsea players could be on their way out this summer, as a part of a squad clearout.

Having not invested in players over the last two transfer windows, the club has already made quite the splash heading into this summer. Chelsea have already made two huge signings in the form of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

The club remain in pursuit of several more signings, with high-profile stars like Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell on the shopping list of the club. (h/t Express)

For the club to be able to bring in new players, some of the deadwood within the squad will need to be moved on this summer. And as per the report, six players could be shown the door once the transfer window opens.

The six names being mentioned are striker Michy Batshuayi, midfielders Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko, full-back Emerson Palmieri, along with star wingers Willian and Pedro. (h/t Football.london)

Batshuayi is currently behind Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order and has hardly featured under Lampard. With Werner also arriving, it is clear that he has no future whatsoever at the club.

Drinkwater too doesn’t feature in Lampard’s plans, with the midfielder out on loan at Aston Villa. Same goes for Bakayoko as well, who has spent two years out on loan from the club after a disappointing debut campaign in 2017/18.

Emerson, on the other hand, started this season as the first-choice left-back, but has struggled to make his way back into the side since an injury. Lampard is actively scouring the market for a new left-back, meaning Emerson doesn’t have a part to play going forward.

Willian and Pedro, on the other hand, have been key members of the squad. However, both their contracts expire at the end of the season.

It goes without saying that Lampard is building an exciting team at Stamford Bridge. Hopefully, the club are able to add more new faces in the coming days.
