Arsenal’s ability to pay Willian £250,000-a-week called into question
According to the Mirror, Arsenal could struggle to pay £250,000-a-week for soon to be free agent, Willian.
The Gunners were ready to pay the amount prior to the coronavirus pandemic. But with the financial strength of clubs adversely impacted by the virus, the new contract could prove hard to meet. (h/t Mirror)
According to the report, experts believe contracts for free agents could drop by as much as 50 percent, 25 percent less at the least.
Should Arsenal keep their current offer in place, it would make Willian their second-highest-paid player behind Mesut Ozil who earns £350,000-a-week. (h/t Metro)
This could be significant given Frank Lampard’s recent revelations. The Blues boss revealed that Willian could yet extend his stay at the club.
The 31-year-old reached an agreement with Chelsea this week to remain at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.
Chelsea had earlier offered a new two-year deal to Willian but he has been holding out for a three-year contract. The club was unwilling to accept his terms. It remains to be seen if a compromise can be reached. (h/t Daily Mail)
One of the seniors in the squad, Willian can offer both experience and guidance to our young squad. Interest in the Brazilian is high, with Tottenham Hotspur also among his suitors. (h/t Daily Mail)
