Antonio Rudiger helped convince Timo Werner to join Chelsea

Speaking to Chelsea TV (h/t Sky Sports), Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has revealed the role he played in the club’s capture of Timo Werner.

The German striker will join up with the Blues in the summer, subject to a medical. Chelsea shocked the football world when they beat off the competition to sign the Leipzig marksman.

It now appears that we have Rudiger to thank for whispering sweet nothings in his international teammate’s ear.

The Blues defender was in constant touch with Werner throughout the lockdown. His aim of convincing the 24-year-old to move to the Bridge eventually came to fruition.

“We spoke a lot during the lockdown and he told me he was interested in coming to England. Of course then I did my bit, what I had to do.”

Rudiger has compared the German ace to Leicester City marksman Jamie Vardy. The Foxes star is a prolific scorer notorious for making use of his pace to good effect. (h/t Sky Sports)

Werner is of a similar mould and enjoys outpacing his opponents to great effect. He has enjoyed a stellar season and has scored 32 goals and 13 assists in 44 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)

By adding Werner, Chelsea now have an infallible scorer up front. The one thing that the German can guarantee is goals and hopefully, there will be plenty of that next season.

Now that Mission Werner has ended in glory, let’s hope agent Rudiger can also see through Mission Havertz.
