Hakim Ziyech reacts on Instagram as Chelsea return to action

Ajax Amsterdam star Hakim Ziyech became the first senior player to officially sign for Chelsea this year.

The 27-year-old attacker has proven to be a stellar player over the last couple of years in the Eredivisie. He played a huge part in the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semifinals in 2019.

With the Eredivisie season cancelled, Ziyech is now counting down the days until he can join up with his new teammates.

Unlike the Dutch league, the Premier League returned to action last week. Chelsea took on Aston Villa as they looked to solidify their hold on the fourth spot.

Ziyech appears to be glued in on the team as they overcame a first-half deficit to run out 2-1 winners. He was glad about the result and replied in the affirmative to Antonio Rudiger’s Instagram post.

Ziyech is one of two high-profile signings who are set to call Stamford Bridge home. Alongside Timo Werner, the Moroccan international will add youth and ability to the Chelsea frontline.

The Blues have embarked upon a no-nonsense approach in the transfer market. By signing two of Europe’s best talents, we threaten to leave our rivals behind and close the gap at the top.

We cannot wait to watch Ziyech in action. From the looks of it, neither can he wait to be involved.

The win over Villa takes us five clear of Manchester United. It also takes us closer to Leicester City, who are just three points ahead of us.

The win may not have been pretty, but the three points could make all the difference when the season comes to a close. The Blues return to action this Thursday as they take on defending champions Manchester City.

Former Chelsea star backs the Blues to finish in the top four

Glen Johnson backs Chelsea for a top-four finish

According to the Mirror via Betdaq, former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has backed the Blues to finish in the top four.

It may seem academic given that we are currently third in the table. However, given that just two points separate third from fifth, a single draw or defeat can change our destiny.

Speaking ahead of the match against Sheffield United, Johnson has backed Chelsea and Manchester United to join Liverpool and Manchester City in Europe’s premier competition next season.

“I think it will be Chelsea and United.”

Frank Lampard’s side have won four out of five Premier League games to leapfrog Leicester into third place. United are unbeaten since January and have surged up the table while Leicester continue to plummet down.

The Foxes have won just once since the restart and are now in danger of dropping out. With them set to face off against United on the last day, there is no shortage of drama.

There is a possibility that the fifth-placed team could take Manchester City’s place in the Champions League. However, it depends on the Cityzens’ European ban being upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday.

Johnson came through the ranks at West Ham United before moving to Chelsea in 2003. He spent four years at Stamford Bridge and made 71 appearances for the club before moving to Portsmouth.

The former England international represented his country at three major tournaments. He was a part of the Blues squad that won the double in 2004-05.

He made history as part of a Portsmouth side that won the FA Cup in 2008. The south-coast club’s first major honour in 58 years. He eventually moved to Liverpool and played a key role in their unsuccessful 2013-14 title bid. Ironically, it was Chelsea who put the nail on their coffin.

Frank Lampard has done a good job at Chelsea despite having to make do with a transfer ban. Qualifying for the Champions League will cap off what has been a promising season.

With the Blues still in the FA Cup, there is still a chance that we might end up with a trophy.

Chelsea leading the race for 16-year-old Dutch starlet

Chelsea lead Tottenham, Everton in Mohamed Sankoh pursuit

According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are in pole position to sign Stoke City starlet Mohamed Sankoh, who is also a target for Tottenham, Everton and Celtic,

The 16-year-old Sankoh started out at the academy of Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam and made the switch to Stoke in the summer of 2018. While the young striker is yet to make his senior debut for the Potters, he has impressed heavily for the youth teams and the reserves.

So far, Sankoh has turned out 16 times for the Stoke U18 side, bagging nine goals and nine assists in the process. Playing amongst much older players than him for the U23s in the Premier League 2, the 16-year-old has racked up eight appearances, contributing with a solitary assist.

Sankoh is only on a scholarship deal with Stoke and will be able to sign for any club when he turns 17 in October later this year. And any club signing him will not have to pay any transfer fee, but just a compensation. (h/t Football.london)

And Chelsea are reportedly ready to pounce on the chance. The Blues will be offering the 16-year-old Sankoh a scholarship deal for starters, with a view to offer a professional contract as soon as he becomes eligible.

While there are a lot of clubs interested in signing Sankoh, given the opportunities that youngsters have been receiving at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, it would make sense that the teenager would consider a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Under Lampard, the likes of Reece James, Billy Gilmour, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have all received great opportunities. Now, another academy prospect Lewis Bate is also set to get a taste of first-team football, with the 17-year-old being called up to the squad for the Sheffield United game.

Sankoh was part of the Netherlands U17 side that won the U17 European Championships last summer. He has demonstrated great potential and can be an exciting addition for the future.

Chelsea to clsoe in on Kai Havertz as top four finish nears attainment

Chelsea in pole position to land Kai Havertz

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to close the deal for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star Kai Havertz, as no other clubs are willing to meet his release clause.

The 21-year-old Havertz has emerged as one of the top young players in Europe, after enjoying a sensational 2019/20 campaign with Leverkusen.

Kai Havertz remains the top priority for Chelsea

Havertz has racked up amazing returns of 17 goals and 9 assists from 43 games in all competitions and could add to that tally in the Europa League next month, provided he stays at the club till then.

This has seen a host of clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid get linked with a move for the Germany international, along with Chelsea. (h/t Daily Mail)

Bayer Leverkusen are demanding that clubs meet Havertz’s £90m release clause if they want to sign him. However, Chelsea are the only team willing to do so, with the other clubs baulking at the price, which has left the Blues in pole position to sign the 21-year-old. (h/t Daily Mail)

Chelsea have already made a huge statement in the transfer market, having signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, spending £90m on the duo. But that has not deterred the club in the pursuit of Havertz, with manager Frank Lampard even prepared to sell a few players in order to sign him.

It is cited that Lampard, a goalscoring midfielder during his playing days, realises the value that Havertz would bring to the team. And he is the driving force behind Chelsea’s bid to land the German international.

Given his immense ability and versatility, there is no questioning that Havertz will take the team to a whole new level. And it says a lot about the club’s drive and ambition that they are willing to push ahead with the deal, despite the steep price tag.

Exciting times lie ahead for Chelsea fans!

Transfer News: New AC Milan boss eyes forgotten Chelsea star

Bakayoko Chelsea

New AC Milan boss Ralf Rangnick keen on Tiemoue Bakayoko

According to a report from Il Giornale (h/t Mirror), incoming AC Milan manager Ralf Rangnick has his eyes set on a summer swoop for forgotten Chelsea star Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Rangnick is supposedly poised to take over as the manager of the Rossoneri at the end of the next season, replacing Stefano Pioli. And as per the report, he is intent on recruiting Frenchman Bakayoko in his first transfer window in charge.

Time for goodbye?
Time for goodbye?

Bakayoko joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017, after having led the French club to a surprise Ligue 1 title triumph. However, things never worked out for the midfielder in London.

Having struggled to make an impact at the Bridge in his debut campaign, Bakayoko was loaned out to AC Milan for the 2018/19 season, where he endured a mixed campaign.

Last summer saw him return to AS Monaco on loan, where he has fared decently. He finished the 2019/20 campaign with one goal and two assists from 23 matches in all competitions.

While he has still two years left on his contract with Chelsea, Bakayoko seemingly has no future at the club. More so, considering the riches in the midfield department at Frank Lampard’s disposal.

Given the current financial climes, every penny matters. So, with Bakayoko not part of the plans, the club should look to cash in on him this summer, rather than sending him out on loan for another campaign.

This would help the club boost its coffers as we look to pursue other transfer targets. And with Milan interested, there is a good chance that a deal can be worked out.
