Lampard demands improvement despite Chelsea’s comeback win vs Aston Villa

Frank Lampard calls for improved performances from Chelsea

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has called upon his team to improve as the season draws to a close.

The Blues had to come back from behind to win against Aston Villa. Goals from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud made the difference as Chelsea pulled five points clear of the fifth spot.

“We didn’t know exactly what we were coming in to and now we have three points when some teams have lost points around us.”

With Leicester City restricted to a draw, we have also closed the gap to the third spot to just three points. We still have to play the Foxes and could leapfrog them by the time the season comes to an end.

Despite coming away with the win, Lampard is keen to see his team learn from their errors.

“I want to hang on the positive note but it’s my job also to look at things we can improve on.”

The Blues have the toughest run-in amongst the team around us. With us set to face the three teams above us in the table, we cannot take the results for granted.

Only by knowing our mistakes can we ensure we do not repeat them. By understanding that, Lampard is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

“Things we will definitely have to clean up on in the future games coming up.”

It is said that a loss is a harsher teacher compared to a victory. By doing away with that distinction, Lampard is ensuring that the club is ready for any eventuality.

Chelsea face Manchester City in the Premier League on Thursday. The game has significance in both the title race and the race for fourth place.

A victory will give us more breathing space while a loss gives our rivals the leeway to close the gap. Chelsea players will be buoyed by their victory over Villa. They will, however, do well to not repeat the mistakes that led to Villa’s opener.
