Karlheinz Forster hit back at Timo Werner criticism
According to Sport1 (h/t Metro), Karlheinz Forster, the agent of Timo Werner has hit back at allegations against his client.
The German ace is all set to join Chelsea in the summer. The 24-year-old is keen to link up with his new teammates and will forgo Leipzig’s Champions League campaign to be able to do so.
This led to him being criticized by former Germany star Stefan Effenberg. Writing in his column on Sport1 (h/t Metro), the former Bayern star stated that Werner was letting down his teammates with whom he has gotten so far in the tournament.
“I don’t understand why Timo Werner has chosen to miss the rest of the Champions League campaign to join Chelsea.”
The comments have not sat well with Forster. He leapt to the defence of his client and believes Werner should not be criticized for wanting to enjoy a good start at Chelsea.
“What annoys me is that Timo is now put in a corner and portrayed as a bad sportsman, who lets his teammates down. I have to disagree with that quite clearly.”
The Bundesliga side have qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament and are waiting to find who they will face. The competition will be held in Portugal and will resume in the summer.
Forster believes that returning to Leipzig after his holidays will affect Werner when he eventually moves to London.
“All involved parties – and not just Timo – decided that he will move to Chelsea on 1 July and not in mid or late August.”

Werner is keen to have a proper pre-season and acclimatize himself to Frank Lampard’s system.
The sooner he moves to Chelsea, the more time he would have to get used to our style. Although every Chelsea fan would be in favour of him joining us as quickly as possible, we’d all think otherwise had Chelsea been at the receiving end.
