Frank Lampard speaks out on the futures of Pedro and Willian
As reported by the Metro, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opened up on the futures of veteran wingers Pedro and Willian.
He confirmed that talks are undergoing between the club and duo. The Blues are keen to see the players finish the season at the Bridge. (h/t Metro)
“If we try to extend the players then we want them to stay, we have conversations going on.”
The contracts of both the veterans expire on June 30th. The Premier League has granted permission to teams to sign temporary extensions until the season ends.
This, however, had to be agreed upon by both parties – the club and the player. So far neither player has done so, leaving Lampard in a difficult position. (h/t Metro)
Chelsea now face the daunting prospect of playing their last six games sans the experienced duo. Given the intense competition underway for the fourth spot, Lampard can use any help he gets. (h/t Metro)
“We want to finish the season with the players we started with.”
It was revealed by The Athletic that Pedro has refused to play for the club. His decision is motivated by the fact that he does not want to jeopardize a move to Roma.
Having endured an injury-hit season, his sentiments are perhaps understandable.
Willian, on the other hand, is keen to stay provided the club can provide him with a three-year extension. With the Blues not ready to do so, he too is on his way out. (h/t Daily Mail)
With the deadline to finalize the contracts approaching on Tuesday, it is now a race against the clock.
