Chelsea make an offer to Miralem Pjanic
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea have made an offer to Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
The 30-year-old looks set to leave the Italian champions this summer and is weighing up options from some of the biggest teams on the continent.
Frank Lampard’s side is keen to add a midfielder who has top-level experience. With over 500 first-team appearances to his name, Pjanic clearly fits that bill.
We are not the only ones in the fray as Barcelona and PSG are also keen. According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Daily Mail), the Catalan giants appear to be his favoured destination.
The deal has been held up by Arthur who is not keen to on a move to Turin as a makeweight.
Juventus value the player at around £40million. With his contract running until 2023, they have the high ground when it comes to negotiations. (h/t Daily Mail)
Given the financial troubles faced by Barcelona, it is no surprise they are intent on convincing Arthur to make the move. The hold up can give us an opportunity to steal Pjanic from under their noses.
At 30, Pjanic is not a long-term option. But he will add considerable experience and guile to a young team looking up to their senior stars.
The midfield is an area that we need to address given the uncertainty regarding the future of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. The latter, in particular, has been linked with a move to Juventus to reunite with former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri. (h/t Daily Mail)
