Chelsea to bid for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster
According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Chelsea are set to bid for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
The 32-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at St Mary’s and was loaned out to Celtic this season. The Saints are open to a sale this summer, and are likely to demand a fee of £10m. (h/t Express)
With 187 clean sheets in 410 first-team appearances, Forster is an experienced keeper who is extremely familiar with the English game. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Celtic are very interested in bringing their former star back across the border. However, Chelsea’s interest could help sway his interest to London. (h/t Express)
Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen his squad and Forster is the latest name to be linked to the Blues. Willy Caballero did extend his stay at the club until next summer, but at 38, he is not getting any younger.
Fraser is an agile keeper with excellent shot-stopping ability. He could turn into a shrewd signing by the Blues.
The goalkeeper has been a problematic position for Lampard since he took over last summer. Although Chelsea have the world’s most expensive shot-stopper in Kepa Arrizabalaga among their ranks, he has flattered to justify that honour.
The Blues boss had even dropped Kepa in favour of Caballero back in February. The Spaniard did eventually win his place back, but the talk of his future refuses to die down.

A two time Celtic Player of the Season, Forster has also been selected in the UEFA Champions League team of the week, thrice.
He also holds the record for most consecutive SPL clean sheets for the Hoops with 13. Although it can be argued that the quality in the League is poor, it does show Forster’s ability to be alert even when the team is dominant.
Forster will at best be a backup keeper. If needed, he has the necessary experience to step up and be counted as a starter. At the very least he will give us a temporarily dependable option if Lampard loses faith in Kepa.
