Chelsea withdraw interest in Jesus Manuel Corona
Speaking to Portuguese side A Bola (h/t Express), Matias Bunge, the agent of Jesus Manuel Corona has confirmed that Chelsea have dropped their interest in his client.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful season at Porto and has garnered four goals and 17 assists in 43 appearances so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The Blues had made tentative inquiries to sign him prior to the coronavirus break. Marina Granovskaia has since decided to focus her attention elsewhere. (h/t Express)
Bunge confirmed that Chelsea had indeed made contact regarding the player. The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech and are closing in on Timo Werner. (h/t Express)
“They (Chelsea) asked about his situation. But the same thing happened with other clubs, although none of them exercised a formal approach for Corona.”
Adding Corona into the mix would have added much bite to our frontline. Coincidentally it was the availability of Werner that forced Chelsea to shift focus from the Mexican ace. (h/t Express)
An advantage we would have had is the player’s comparatively lower release clause. He extended his contract at Porto until 2022 and saw his clause decrease from £45m to £27m. (h/t Express)
Capable of playing in a variety of positions, the Mexican winger would have been an excellent addition to our squad. With the likes of Pedro and Willian looking set to leave, additions out wide are required.
Interestingly Corona can also play as a right-back if needed, adding another dimension to his versatility.

It is unfortunate that we are not pursuing the 27-year-old. He would have been a brilliant utility player for our squad.
