A restart on the cards – Chelsea inform overseas stars to return to training

Chelsea inform overseas players to return to training by Sunday

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea have informed their overseas stars that they will have to report back to the club by Sunday.

This move could hint at a return to on-field action as the Premier League clubs work towards a gradual return to training.

The decision is set to affect Willian, who was given special dispensation to go back to his native Brazil to be with his wife and children. Spanish trio of Pedro Rodriguez, Marcos Alonso and Kepa Arrizabalaga was also given permission to return home. (h/t Telegraph)

Chelsea are willing to offer the players an extra day or two to put their travel plans into action. The club will also ensure all governmental regulations regarding quarantine will be followed.

The Blues could be ready if training resumes next month. The Premier League had already circulated a proposed timetable which could see teams back in full training on May 18. The league would start three weeks later, on June 8.

Players are set to be tested for Covid-19 over the following weekend with a return to training in small groups the following Monday, May 11.

According to the report, the Premier League’s proposal is based on the assumption that the government will relax certain measures already in place.

The sooner they return to England, the sooner they can finish the two-week quarantine period. This will ensure they are ready to take part in training if it resumes on May 18.

The players will self-quarantine themselves at home with remote testing also on the cards.

Other London clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have already had players back working individually at their training grounds. They are expected to ramp up their efforts in the coming months.
