Chelsea handed transfer boost in their hunt for prolific Argentine star

Chelsea handed transfer boost in hunt for Mauro Icardi

According to ESPN (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea have been handed a transfer boost in their efforts to sign Argentine striker Mauro Icardi.

Currently, on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, Icardi has been prolific in front of goal. He has scored an impressive 20 goals and four assists in 31 games for the Parisians.

According to the report, the player’s loan has been terminated by PSG following comments from his wife Wanda Nara.

The model, who also happens to be the player’s agent, has hinted at a return to Milan next season. Those hopes were rebuffed by Inter president Javier Zanetti. (h/t Daily Star)

He responded that he doesn’t think the player will be welcomed back in spite of his desire to do so.

“I don’t know, I don’t think so”

Zanetti also went on to add that the current scenario is not conductive of transfers, with football taking a back seat. Meanwhile, Serie A giants Juventus remain keen on signing the Argentine superstar.

Nara also expressed her uncertainty as to where Icardi will ply his trade next. She went on to add that the decision lies with the player and that she and her family will follow him wherever he chooses to go.

“I will support his choice as wife and as his agent for extra security.”

Wanda Nara is a volatile character whose antics have not gone down well at either Inter or PSG. More so, the player’s reputation too has taken a hit among the Inter faithful.

Chelsea have a number of young players who need both guidance and inspiration. There is no doubting Icardi’s talent but questions regarding the baggage he brings along should ring loud and clear.

Signing Icardi will give us a proven striker still in his prime and years to boot. However, given all the drama that seems to accompany him, Chelsea will be better off looking elsewhere.
