Declan Rice could return to Chelsea to reunite with Mason Mount
According to Copa90 (h/t Mirror), West Ham star Declan Rice has revealed that he would love to link up with best friend Mason Mount at the club level again.
Mount has emerged as an important first-team player this season after impressing at Derby County under Frank Lampard.
Rice and Mount were together at Chelsea’s academy in their younger days. The former joined the club at the age of seven and stayed till 2014 when he was released.
This put an end to his hopes of breaking through to the first-team alongside Mount. Instead, it was at another London club West Ham United where Rice made his mark
The 21-year-old made full use of the opportunity given to him by Slaven Bilic and has since been a vital cog in the Hammers setup.
His performances saw him win West Ham Players’ Player of the Year award while also being declared Young Hammer of the Year for the third consecutive season. (h/t Mirror)
As things stand, he is considered to be the ideal replacement for Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson in the England setup. Rice’s contract at West Ham runs until 2024. (h/t Mirror)
He had received considerable attention from Manchester United but the player does not appear keen on returning it. It’s a different matter altogether regarding Chelsea, considering Mount’s affiliation with us.
Chelsea’s hopes of singing he player are further boosted by West Ham’s financial situation. The Hammers made a pre-tax loss of £28.2million in their most recent finances.
Their recent transfer dealings coupled with the shutdown and possible relegation is likely to worsen their situation. Rice is West Ham’s most marketable asset and wants a bigger challenge.
