Chelsea keen on a summer swoop for Max Bird
According to Derbyshire Live, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard could be set to swoop for 19-year-old Derby Country midfielder Max Bird.
The 19-year-old who plays in central midfield for the Rams, made his first-team debut under Lampard last season.
He has made 18 appearances so far for the first-team and has contributed with two assists. Bird currently plays alongside English legend Wayne Rooney in the Derby midfield.
The youngster has not only drawn the attention of Lampard but also his assistant manager Jody Morris.
If the move goes through, he could become the third player to reunite with the former Derby boss at Stamford Bridge. Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori are the two other players. (h/t Derbyshire Live)
The Blues boss has been generous in his praise of Bird even after leaving Pride Park last summer. The youngster was named the Championship apprentice of the year last season.
Lampard has quoted the player’s temperament and also his desire to improve as crucial components of Bird’s character.
“He stands out as a young man.”
Chelsea are currently experiencing a youth revolution under Lampard. A number of promising young players have made their mark in the first-team under the English legend. It remains to be seen if Bird will be added to the list come summer.
