Chelsea handed boost in pursuit of 21-year-old on-loan Real Madrid ace

Chelsea given boost in Achraf Hakimi pursuit

Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund (h/t Daily Star).

Chelsea have been eyeing reinforcements in the full-back slots heading into the next transfer window, with Hakimi emerging as a viable target for us (h/t Daily Star).

The 21-year-old is a product of the Real Madrid youth setup and having broken into the first-team in 2017, Hakimi has spent the past couple of seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

The Moroccan international has shone brightly during his spell in Germany. In the 2019/20 season, Hakimi has come up with a return of 7 goals and 10 assists in 37 matches in all competitions.

Chelsea are interested to snap him up this summer, but it had been claimed recently that Hakimi had agreed a new contract with Real Madrid (h/t Daily Star).

However, the Moroccan’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has rubbished those claims, stating that there has been no new deal signed, handing Chelsea a boost in their pursuit of the Moroccan international (h/t Daily Star).

“There is no basis at all. His contract at Real Madrid is still the same one we negotiated in 2017 and it runs until 2022.”

Reece James has impressed in his breakthrough season for us but it shouldn’t be lost on the club that Cesar Azpilicueta isn’t getting any younger. Neither of Marcos Alonso and Emerson have done enough to nail down the left-back slot either.

Hakimi, with his ability to play on either flank, as well as feature in advanced positions on the wings, would be a handy acquisition if he reproduces his form from this season.

While Borussia Dortmund remain interested in landing him permanently, the fact that there is no contract extension with Real Madrid should definitely come as a boost to our club.

It remains to be seen if there is any move made to sign the Moroccan in the summer (h/t Daily Star).
