Ruben Loftus-Cheek opens up on first training session with Drogba

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed how he was paired with club legend Didier Drogba in his first-ever training session with the Blues senior team, according to Chelsea TV (h/t Football.london).

Loftus-Cheek has spent his entire career at Chelsea, having come through the youth ranks at our club. The Englishman made his first-team debut at the age of 18 under Jose Mourinho.

But the midfielder has now revealed that he was called up to first-team training when he was 16. And in his very first session with the seniors, Loftus-Cheek found himself paired with club legend Didier Drogba (h/t Football.london).

Speaking to Chelsea TV (h/t Football.london), Loftus-Cheek revealed:

“Everyone paired up and then (Didier) Drogba was left and I ended up pairing with him and man to man with him. It’s like he’s got a glow around him. When you’re that young and looking up to these players and they’re the first team players (they have) an aura about them that’s so amazing. ”

Loftus-Cheek also went on to claim that the feeling of coming through the academy to the first-team felt amazing before adding that Chelsea has a big place in his heart (h/t Football.london).

Till date, Loftus-Cheek has made 72 appearances for our first-team, scoring 12 goals and setting up 10 more. However, an Achilles injury he sustained last season has meant that the 24-year-old is yet to make an appearance under Frank Lampard this term.

Now back to full fitness, Loftus-Cheek has made it to the matchday squad on a couple of occasions. And the England international added that he was excited to get back on the pitch again (h/t Football.london).

The Premier League is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and it is still unclear as to when footballing action will resume. As things stand, Chelsea are fourth in the league table.
