Chelsea handed boost in Kepa replacement hunt as £54m-rated star hits contract roadblock

Chelsea given boost in search for Kepa replacement

Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their hunt for a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga. According to a report from Calciomercato (h/t Express), AC Milan are already looking at possible replacements for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is a target for our club.

Donnarumma is a product of the Milan youth academy. The Italian is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe. He has been one of the few Rossoneri players to have performed consistently in recent seasons when the team has been below par.

The 21-year-old Donnarumma will be entering the final year of his contract with AC Milan in the summer. The report claims that the player and his agent Mino Raiola are not close to reaching an agreement anytime soon, casting doubts over his future at the club.

Milan are already looking at possible replacements to replace the 21-year-old from next season onwards, which should come as a huge boost for Chelsea (h/t Express).

Frank Lampard hasn’t been entirely convinced of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s abilities. Our manager opted to drop the Spaniard, who joined the club in 2018 for a record £71m transfer fee, in favour of the ageing Willy Caballero for a stretch of games earlier this year.

And it is being claimed that Lampard is keen on bringing in a new goalkeeper in the next transfer window, with Donnarumma one among our top targets (h/t Express).

The report further adds that AC Milan value their goalkeeper at £54m, which does come out as a touch too steep for a player with just one year left on his contract.

Donnarumma, despite being just 21 years old, has garnered immense experience and has proven his abilities for club and country. He has made 190 appearances for Milan till date but could be on his way out this summer (h/t Express).

While he would be an excellent addition to our ranks, any move is likely to be dependent on whether Lampard decides to offload Kepa this summer.
