According to a report by Spanish outlet Sport (h/t The Metro), Chelsea have entered the race to sign Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez in the summer transfer window.
Since joining the Serie A giants from Racing Club in 2016, Martinez has established himself as a force to reckon with across Europe.
With 25 goals in 66 appearances across competitions, the 22-year-old has attracted attention from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and now Chelsea (Sport h/t The Metro).
The report adds that if a move to Spain is on the cards, the Argentine starlet would prefer the Camp Nou rather than Santiago Bernabeu. But with Chelsea vying for his signature, it remains to be seen if he still favours moving to the La Liga.
Sport (h/t The Metro) further adds that Chelsea are willing to break the bank to bag his signature. With a £100m release clause, the player certainly won’t come cheap. Furthermore, with so many big clubs fighting for his signature, it could spark a bidding war as well.
Interestingly enough though, Sport (h/t The Metro) claims that Barcelona feel his price tag is excessive. If that’s the case, let’s hope Roman Abramovich’s cash-rich coffers are enough to tempt Martinez to join us instead.
As things stand, we have Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi as strikers up front. While Abraham has been fantastic, it would be great if we sign a player of Martinez’s calibre.
