European football expert Gabriele Marcotti believes that Chelsea should avoid shelling out a fee of £85m to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, as per Daily Express.
Although Chelsea remain keen on signing the Jamaican ace, who has been a long-term target, Marcotti is of the opinion that we would be better off signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead (h/t Daily Express).
Sancho is also a highly-rated alternative but Bailey has drawn admiring glances from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, claims Daily Express.
As far as the ongoing campaign is concerned, it has been suspended for the time being due to the coronavirus outbreak that has hampered daily life across the world.
However, until that happened, Sancho had been out-performing Bailey by a large mile in the Bundesliga. While the former has chipped in with 14 goals and 15 assists so far, the latter has been struggling due to an injury he picked up.
Despite that, Bailey has contributed with 5 goals and an assist. That said, perhaps Chelsea should pay heed to Marcotti’s words and pursue a move for Sancho instead.
He has claimed (h/t Daily Express) that Sancho would cost a lot more than the £85m that Chelsea would need to pay to sign Bailey, arguing that the Dortmund star is younger and more talented.
Both Bailey and Sancho are among the best and signing either one of them would be a huge coup for our club.
