According to a report by German news outlet Bild (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea are looking to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga with Bayern Munich ace Manuel Neuer once the transfer window commences.
Kepa, who joined us for a world-record fee, hasn’t lived up to his price tag at Stamford Bridge. Despite showing initial signs of promise, he has been largely error-prone this term.
After a few huge blunders between the sticks, Frank Lampard even dropped him from the team and turned to deputy goalkeeper Willy Caballero. The fact that a 38-year-old replaced the lacklustre youngster speaks volumes of Kepa’s fall from grace.
Although Kepa did make a couple of appearances before the season was suspended until the end of April to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, Daily Mail suggests that Chelsea could still turn to Neuer.
The 34-year-old will enter the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena. He hasn’t agreed on new terms yet, meaning we would have a good chance of signing him – provided we are able to move from a club he has served for years.
However, Bayern signed Alexander Nubel from Schalke and the 23-year-old has displaced Neuer between the sticks.
