According to a report by The Guardian, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has expressed his displeasure after no one got punished following allegations of racial abuse during the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Rudiger has claimed that he was subjected to monkey chants even during the reverse fixture about two months ago but the police failed to find evidence.
The report adds that the player believes that speaking up about it as has placed a bigger target on his back. The Guardian further suggests that some Tottenham fans have hit back and accused the player of lying.
However, speaking on the incident, Rudiger said:
“It’s sad. I don’t know why they would. Maybe it’s because I voiced about the racism. If you boo me because of that then you are poor people.”
The defender went on to speak about how he feels lonely in this fight and while the win does make it better, Rudiger also said that racism won.
Racism is ugly and it should not have a place in this world, let alone on a football field. Let’s hope our players do not have to face anything of this sort in the future.
