Chelsea keen on cut-price summer move for 19-year-old dubbed as ‘New Mesut Ozil’

Chelsea are keen on Rapid Vienna’s Melih Ibrahimoglu

According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are considering a summer transfer for Rapid Vienna sensation Melih Ibrahimoglu. The 19-year-old’s technical ability and vision have led to him being dubbed the new Mesut Ozil.

The midfielder has impressed for Vienna’s second team in the Austrian Regional League this season. Ibrahimoglu has scored four times in eleven appearances so far for the Austrians.

The youngster has also made two appearances for the first-team in the Austrian Bundesliga, both coming off the bench. (h/t Whoscored)

The player could be available on a cut-price deal owing to his contract expiring in 2021. The hierarchy at Stamford Bridge believe that they can sign the player for as little as £3million in the summer.

More goalscoring midfielders needed

Chelsea have struggled for goals in the absence of Tammy Abraham this season. Michy Batshayi has not taken his chances well while the midfield has struggled to get involved on a regular basis.

Ibrahimoglu has shown an eye for goal which can further be honed at Chelsea. At £3million (if the club manages to sign the player for that price), the 19-year-old represents a low-risk option who can potentially develop at the club.
