Edwin Andersson signs for Chelsea from IFK Gothenburg
Chelsea have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Swedish prodigy Edwin Andersson, according to the Independent.
The Blues agreed to a deal before the January transfer window closed. The player will, however, join up with the North London side in the summer. Andersson has been compared to Callum Hudson-Odoi and Cristiano Ronaldo by his father.
The youngster was on a trial with Manchester United 18 months ago. Thankfully for the Blues, no deal materialized, allowing them to swoop in for the player. (h/t Football.London)
Andersson has been a prolific scorer for the Swedish youth teams since making his debut for the Under-16 side as a 14-year-old.
He scored seven times at the level before moving up to the Under-17 level. He scored three times in the qualification stages of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
Chelsea are in need of a revamp with a number of players past their prime. The likes of Willian and Pedro are ageing.
By choosing to secure the signing of some of the promising youth players, Chelsea have a good chance of unearthing the next best talent in European football.
